Welcome to Al Thumama

Al Thumama is a district in Doha, Qatar. It is one of five zones for the government-sponsored project to develop reservoirs. The reservoirs are supposed to be the largest globally in their category. It was a proposed venue for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. As one of Doha's newer cities, the area is well-planned. City authorities first plotted the district in the 1990s; it has grown quickly. It is mainly a residential city, with Qataris and Arab emigrants living here as the most common groups. Doha's road network is well-connected to the area, with important roads such as the F Ring Road, E Ring Road, and Al Matar Street. Further, it is close to Hamad International Airport.

Special Development of Al Thumama City

The Al Thumama Stadium is one of eight stadiums made for the FIFA World Cup 2022. It is located near Hamad International Airport. A joint venture between Al Jaber Engineering of Qatar and Tekfen Construction of Turkey is involved in the construction work. The design, by the Chief Architect of the Arab Engineering Bureau, Ibrahim Jaidah, takes its inspiration from the conventional taqiyah hat. Men and boys across the Middle East wear this cap. A 50,000 m2 (540,000 sq ft) public park will cover the stadium. The stadium has a 40,000-seat capacity. It will donate half of the stadium's seats to other countries following the World Cup.

The stadium opened on October 22, 2021. The construction of Al Thumama Stadium, along with other stadiums, was built for the FIFA World Cup 2022.
