Rented homes make up the majority of Qatar's housing stock, reflecting a population in which expatriate residents are the clear majority. That depth of supply means real choice at almost every budget, from studios to compound villas.
It also means tenants have room to negotiate. Where a building has several empty units, a landlord will usually move on the rent, the furnishing or the length of the term rather than lose a year's income.

West Bay and The Pearl suit residents who want to walk to work and to the water. Al Sadd, Al Rayyan and Umm Salal offer more space for the money, and Lusail sits comfortably between the two.
A furnished studio outside the centre can start near QAR 3,500 a month, while a three-bedroom in a prime tower runs several times that. Furnishing, floor level and view move the figure more than anything else.

Furnished units arrive ready to live in and cost more each month, which suits a short posting. An empty apartment is cheaper over a two-year stay once you have bought the furniture, and part-furnished usually means white goods and wardrobes only.
One-year contracts are the norm, usually with a refundable deposit. Two- and three-year terms are common too, and landlords often include a rent-free month to win the longer commitment.

If you are not ready to sign for a year, serviced apartments let on a rolling monthly basis and arrive fully furnished with bills included. They cost more per month but remove every set-up cost.
Most towers fold a pool, gym and covered parking into the service charge. Check whether water, electricity and internet are billed separately — it is the single most common surprise on a Qatar tenancy.

See the actual unit rather than the show apartment, and go at the hour you would normally be home so you can judge the light and the noise. Photograph the condition on handover day and agree any repairs in writing before you sign.
